Transform Your Google Sheets Game with AI Power
The time is ten past tomorrow, and today I’m reviewing Numerous.ai, an AI-powered tool that does some really incredible things within Google Sheets.
I decided to write this piece after watching this excellent demo video of how the tool works.
Now, if you've been following my writing, you know that in a previous essay, I admitted that I'm not exactly a "numbers guy." I get it - for some of us numbers can be intimidating, especially if as a leader of your business you're more focused on the creative or strategic side of things.
But that's where the magic of AI comes in.
If you're like me and numbers aren't your strong suit, this is the perfect article to pass on to your team members who excel at numbers. I suggest you share this piece with your admin staff and/or operational team members who are regularly elbow-deep in Google Sheets.
Crushing repetitive tasks with AI
Despite not having a close friendship with numbers myself, I have friends who do get on really well with them.
I’ve never met anyone that likes drowning in repetitive tasks though.
You know the tasks I'm talking about – formatting spreadsheet cells or categorizing items that just seem to never end. If you’re in a role that requires tasks like that of you, Numerous.ai is here to save the day by automating them with AI, so you can focus on the more productive and enjoyable (oxymoron?) spreadsheet tasks.
There’s a great example in the demo video (at 6.10mins) where instead of manually formatting hundreds of cells, the demonstrator shows the AI a few examples of how he wants his cells formatted, hits the “INFER” function, and boom – it's done! He uses it to run a task that needs sentiment analysis of mass customer feedback, but it’s easy to watch the example and quickly imagine dozens of similar use cases.
When I watched that part of the video, I could almost hear the collective sigh of relief around the world from all the Google Sheets operators getting hours of their lives back.
Demystifying formulas with AI
If you've ever wrestled with a complex formula in Google Sheets, you know the struggle is real. But what if I told you Numerous.ai could generate those formulas for you, using plain English? Game changer, right?
Say goodbye to formula frustration – just type in what you want in your own words, and Numerous.ai spits out the formula =AVERAGE(A1:A10) for you. It works with even the most complex formulas, from SUM and COUNTIF to VLOOKUP and QUERY.
This feature was really cool to watch, and even I got a little bit excited about trying it out. I often suspect there’s a better way to do things within Google Sheets but don’t know any formulas or even how to describe what I want to do into Google to search for a formula. I think in one flex, this tool has solved the problem for me. I’m looking forward to trying it out!
Unleashing your inner copywriter with AI
Besides crushing repetitive tasks and decoding formulas, Numerous.ai can help you write killer text using AI – perfect for crafting taglines or messages that pack a punch.
All you need to do is tell Numerous.ai what you want, and it'll generate the text for you.
Admittedly you can do this directly within ChatGPT.
The beauty of this feature though, is when you need to generate multiple / dozens / hundreds / thousands of similar text-based descriptions at a time. Instead of going in and out of ChatGPT to load the input and copy/paste the output for each individual description, let Numerous.ai work its magic for you and do it all in one shot.
(Ironically, this was a hard feature to describe in words. To see it in action, go to 1.50mins on the demo video. It’s worth a watch)
Decoding complex formulas with AI
We’re starting to get into Google Sheet “power user” territory with this feature, well outside of my remit.
For those of you who fit that description though, have you ever been handed a spreadsheet packed with cryptic formulas that left you scratching your head? Numerous.ai is there for you now, able to give explanations for complex formulas in plain English.
I think this function will open up whole new capabilities for power users of Google Sheets. I can see it bringing understanding to formulas that weren’t being used by people because they were too complicated or the use cases for them were too rare.
The price to pay
When you start using Numerous.ai, you're gifted 60 free tokens to kick off your AI-powered journey. Each time you create a new function, you'll use one of those tokens.
However, it appears that you can do a TON of really interesting stuff for free without needing to use many/any of those tokens.
If you think you're going to want to use Numerous.ai quite frequently, and you start to run through your tokens, Numerous.ai's got an upgrade option.
The future is now
The astute readers amongst you might be wondering if you even need third-party tools like Numerous.ai when giants like Google and Microsoft are working to incorporate AI-driven features into their own products? I’ve previously talked about this concept of the likelihood of the big boys coming through to steamroll single-application tools like Numerous.ai.
At the moment, my advice is that the future is always just around the corner, but your business is chugging right now.
That's why I think Numerous.ai is really worth checking out, and incorporating into your software stack for your staff members who use Google Sheets a lot.
The product is already here, ready to revolutionize your workflow with its powerful AI capabilities. Sure, Google and Microsoft will catch up soon, but why wait? Give Numerous.ai a shot and experience the immediate benefits of streamlining your operations and boosting your productivity.
The bottom line: Numerous.ai is an incredibly useful tool that's worth trying out today.
After all, the time is ten past tomorrow and there’s no time to wait.
