Reclaiming time and meaning in the AI Age

Most of the noise about AI still circles around the same ideas... AI as radical scale-up of efficiency, productivity and innovation.

To drive profit.

But what if those don't end up becoming the most interesting or long-tail uses of this technology?

What if AI completely reshapes our world to the point that our lives are no longer focused around 40 hour blocks of work to earn wages for ourselves and produce profit for companies? What is AI completely re-orients our economic system?

In a recent conversation with Steven Moe on his Seeds podcast (here), we explored the early signals of what that might look like, examining how purpose-led organisations are choosing a different path with AI... one that uses AI to create more space, not just more output. Imagine completing your week’s work in 25 hours, then being encouraged by your CEO to spend part of that accrued time with your kids at the beach.

That’s not a Silicon Valley fantasy... I'm actually seeing it happen right here in New Zealand with some forward thinking companies and organisations.

This week's video essay breaks down the signals, the tension, and the long AI horizon that might just be beginning.

If you’ve ever wondered whether there's 'something else that's possible with AI' than just powering a productivity and profit boom, this one’s worth your time.
