Last week I did the equivalent of seven weeks of work in five days.
The idea came from an AI commentator I follow. He suggested keeping a weekly log of the big jobs you hand to AI... what you used, what it cost, the time you spent briefing and checking, and how long capable people would have taken to do the same work. He ran it on himself and got mindblowing numbers, so I ran the same audit across my own week using Claude Code and Codex.
It tracked my work across business strategy tasks, course content creation, research, client work and coding. I grouped the related tasks, and put dollar figures on them for what I'd pay your 'average' human wage to do the same work.
The summary was that I did the equivalent of 291 human hours of work in 5 days, which would have cost me about $47,705 of wages at New Zealand contractor rates.
The Codex and Claude Code subscriptions cost me about $178 for the week.
It’s a fascinating analysis. I think it says a lot about where the future of work is heading once the majority are working in these agentic tools.
